
The estate was established in 1884 in the Makum Tea Company which was a part of the Assam Railway and Trading Company. It
derives its name from the nearby township named by an Italian engineer. Margherita was the
reigning queen of Italy at that time. The estate is situated at the upper end of the Assam Valley, with the Arunachal in the South and the Margherita township in the north. The area is fertile & rich.
